When I awoke one Tuesday morning a couple weeks ago, I had no idea that I was going to fall in love that day. And then, that evening, I was swept off my feet by the world's most gorgeous chair. Yes, chair.
When you're a writer, where your derrière goes is important. You sit in the same chair for hours a day. And for quite a while I'd been torturing myself by sitting in an incredibly impractical chair. It was virtually uncushioned, straight-backed and built of wooden slats that I'm pretty sure were derived from toothpicks. A Puritan would have been proud of it's simple, agonizing design. And the pièce de résistance? A completely non-functional compass - yes, compass - set into the back, poised to assault the upper thoracic vertebrae of anyone who dared to lean back against it. Why? I have no idea...maybe so that its unfortunate occupant could easily navigate their way to the land of needless self-abuse.
Why did I use this ridiculous chair for over two years? After finding and purchasing my true chair-love, I asked myself the same question. I can only say that it came with my house when I bought it, and that I recall thinking something along the lines of 'it's Spartan design and the discomfort it inspires will encourage good posture'. I strive to maintain good posture, which has actually led some people to the completely false impression that I'm a ballerina. In reality I've never practiced any sort of dance, let alone ballet, but why not keep the illusion of grace alive?
But those days of intense discomfort are behind me now and I'm never, ever going back. I have a new love - a pink damask, silver nail-headed love. It really is the most gorgeous chair I've ever seen. And it has cushioning, and is completely compass-free!
What about you? If you write, or spend significant amounts of time in front of your computer for another reason, do you have a fantastic chair? Or are you still searching for the chair of your dreams?

New Novella Taken Hostage to be Published This Year
My novella Taken Hostage will be published this year by Embrace Books! I am excited...excited enough to risk redundancy by posting another confetti picture, so here it is:
When the book comes out (expected release date is sometime this summer), I'll break out the champagne .jpeg ;)
Taken Hostage is a fast-paced, red-hot romance between a gorgeous, gun-wielding bank robber and his hostage, Tiffany. It will be a part of Embrace Book's After Dark Series - their hottest, most daring line.
I'll post updates of interest here as the publication process progresses. Meanwhile, Embrace is releasing some lovely romance novels this Valentine's Day - you may want to check them out!
